Tip #1: Follow Directions!

If you don't follow directions your resume may end up in the discard pile!

Finger presses purple delete key repeatedly.

💡The employer may indicate how to structure your email when applying for a job. Review the directions for the following information:

  • What email address should you send your resume to?

  • How should you title the subject line?

  • Should you attach a cover letter?

  • Should you attach your resume as a PDF or a Microsoft Word Document? Or should you include the plain text version in the body of the email?

Tip #2: Be Neat and Concise

If no directions are included regarding the subject line then include the job title and your name.

Example: Veterinarian Technician-Eli Osprey

Include your name and job title when saving your resume or cover letter.

Example: Preya_Kapor_Resume_Human_Resources_Director and Preya_Kapor_Cover_Letter_Human_Resources_Director

If no directions are given regarding how to attach your resume or cover letter, attach as a Microsoft Word Document to ensure the Applicant Tracking System can read it.
