You have created the perfect resume (CV) for your dream company. The only thing left to do is email your resume to the hiring manager and wait to be called for an interview.
Follow these tips to ensure your resume stands out and doesn't end up as a deleted email!
Tip #1: Follow Directions!
If you don't follow directions your resume may end up in the discard pile!
💡The employer may indicate how to structure your email when applying for a job. Review the directions for the following information:
What email address should you send your resume to?
How should you title the subject line?
Should you attach a cover letter?
Should you attach your resume as a PDF or a Microsoft Word Document? Or should you include the plain text version in the body of the email?
Did you know?
Tip #2: Be Neat and Concise
✅ If no directions are included regarding the subject line then include the job title and your name.
Example: Veterinarian Technician-Eli Osprey
✅ Include your name and job title when saving your resume or cover letter.
Example: Preya_Kapor_Resume_Human_Resources_Director and Preya_Kapor_Cover_Letter_Human_Resources_Director
✅ If no directions are given regarding how to attach your resume or cover letter, attach as a Microsoft Word Document to ensure the Applicant Tracking System can read it.
Tip #4: Include an Intro
✅ Be sure to introduce yourself in the email.
✅ You may choose to paste your cover letter into the body of your email.
✅ If attaching your cover letter, be sure to include in your introduction, the position you are applying for, why you are interested or qualified for the position, and indicate that your resume and cover letter are attached.
✅ Use professional language and be clear and to the point.

⚡Check Your Knowledge!
Santiago has read the directions carefully so he will know how to apply to a pharmaceutical company:
Email your resume as an attachment to Shamika Walker at shamika.walker@pharmaceuticalcompany.com. Include your cover letter in the body of the email. Title your email Pharmaceutical Sales Rep-(first, last name). Resumes must be received no later than January 1st to be considered for an interview.
Quiz
What format should Santiago use when attaching his resume and cover letter?
When in doubt attach files as Word Documents when applying for jobs, unless instructed to do otherwise. This is because many employers and recruiters use automated tracking software to screen resumes, which have difficulty with formats like PDF.
