Is there is too much of this in your life?
Microwave dinners and fast food may be quick and easy meal options in your busy life, but these eventually take a toll on your physical and mental health.
With less money and just a little more time, you can have fun creating your own healthy and nutritious meals for one!
Make A Plan
Identify what you have and plan your meals before shopping for groceries.
At the grocery store:
Stock up on non-perishable staples.
Look for shortcuts like washed and pre-chopped vegetables.
Buy ingredients you can use for multiple meals.
Adapt & Experiment
Don't be afraid to mix it up with:
condiments
sauces
spices
leftovers
whatever else you have on hand!
Quiz
You are tired and hungry after a long day at work. You find leftover roast beef and a bag of chopped veggies in the fridge. You already ate out for lunch. What do you do for dinner?
Recycling your leftovers is less wasteful and provides you with a new and nutritious meal that you can enjoy without tiring yourself out. A gourmet meal would be best left for another time. There's nothing wrong with ordering in or just snacking sometimes, but you already have most of a healthy dinner there!
Scale Down
Use a conversion chart to adjust regular recipes to smaller portions.
Keep this accessible in your cooking space or your phone.
Alternatively:
Make a two-person meal and eat the leftovers the next day
Cook multiple portions and freeze the leftovers
Invite a friend to join you for dinner
Quiz
You have been craving your mum's lasagna for a while now but the recipe she gave you serves six people. What could you do?
These are all good options that lead to happy scenarios! Scaling down the recipe, freezing the leftovers, or inviting friends are great ways to reduce food waste.
