Have you ever tried to learn about geography, but didn't know where to start? Perhaps you got off to a rocky start!
The good news is, ChatGPT can help. Here are 3 ways to create ChatGPT prompts that will improve your understanding of geography topics.
1: Identify what you want to learn
There are countless topics about geography, so you might find it overwhelming to choose what to learn about. If you have a general topic in mind, the right ChatGPT prompts can help you narrow down your study by suggesting specific topics to focus on.
To make your prompt more effective, be as specific as you can. Include the number of topics you want to be listed and add what the geography topics should be generally related to.
Example ChatGPT prompt:
List 5 different geography topics related to climate.

2: Summarize a resource
Now that you've chosen a specific topic to learn more about, you can use ChatGPT prompts to help you summarize a resource. This can help you save time if you find a useful article, but don't have time to read the whole thing.
Example ChatGPT prompt:
Summarize the following: [insert text from the resource]
Did you know?
You should always verify the resource you want ChatGPT to summarize and make sure it's from a source you trust to. This will help avoid misinformation. Learn more in this Byte about the CRAAP test!
3: Create a quiz
Feeling pretty good about what you've learned about geography now? Quiz yourself! Quizzes are a great way to practice what you've learned and can help you identify parts of a topic to re-visit. You can ask ChatGPT to create a quiz for you, and it will even give you the answers.
Example ChatGPT prompt:
Create a multiple choice quiz made up of 10 questions about climate adaptation strategies in Canada.
Try a practice scenario
This is Lizzy. She's working on her geography project about the risks of natural disasters.
One section of her project is about reducing the risk to communities, but she's not sure how to structure her research.
She's going to use ChatGPT to help her and she's come up with 4 prompt ideas:
A: "How can I organize my research about reducing the risk to communities from natural disasters?"
B: "What are all the ways to reduce the risk to communities from natural disasters?"
C: "What are three topics related to reducing the risk to communities from natural disasters?"
D: "I'm doing a project about the risks of natural disasters. Can you write a section about reducing the risk to communities?"
Quiz
From the above prompts, what option would best help Lizzy structure research for the section of her project?
C is the best option because the prompt lists a specific number of topics related to the section of her project she needs to research. The other prompts could still be helpful, but it's useful to be as specific as you can when writing prompts in ChatGPT.
