Your Personal Brand is how others perceive you.
But which skills should your Personal Brand reflect to help you stand out from the crowd?
Brainstorm
To choose what to highlight, reflect on these guiding questions:
Personality and Behaviour
What are my hobbies?
Do I like working alone or in teams?
Values and Beliefs
What do I care about?
What am I motivated by?
Technical Expertise and Skills
Which subjects do I excel in?
Which skills do I enjoy using?
Image and Reputation
What do others ask me to help with?
What feedback have my peers or loved ones given me?
Define Your Goals And Identify Your Target Audience
Do you want a promotion at the office?
Or do you want to make new friends at the tennis club?
What skills or personality traits will appeal to this group?
Quiz
Which of these attributes should you NOT highlight in your promotion conversation with your boss?
Highlighting that you're fun loving won't get you the promotion - that won't show your boss that you are a fit for the role. But it can be a great thing to highlight at a party where you're trying to make new friends.
Be Selective And Keep It Simple
Choose your strongest and most relevant attributes.
Focus on communicating these clearly.
If you try to be too many things to too many people, your message will get lost.
Be True To Who You Are
Don't try to be someone you're not!
If people think you are one thing, and discover the opposite is true, they'll feel let down.
This damages your reputation and personal brand.
