How To Answer This Question

Do

  • Take your time answering

  • Be succinct and clear

  • Let them know one of your goals is to support the organization's mission

  • Tell them you want to be a team player

Don't

  • Say, "I haven't thought about that," or "I don't know."

  • Say, "I don't really care."

  • Be arrogant or self-serving

  • Talk about salary or promotions

The interviewer is really asking if you think ahead. If you have goals, it shows that you thought ahead about applying and are doing so for a reason. This type of question shows the hiring manager that you plan to stick around for a while.
