Right?!

You need a job but they all require experience.

What can you do?

Volunteer!

Find An Organization That Interests You

Look for local organizations that need volunteers. Charities are a good idea.

Get in contact and see what roles they have available.

Keep going until you find something that interests you or is relevant to you.

Quiz

Billy is interested in writing articles. Which type of charity would be a good fit?

Did you know?

You can literally google, "Volunteer opportunities in (the place you live)". There are many resources that collect opportunities like a job board.

You've got to show up with a good attitude and a willingness to learn.

Once you get to know people, you can ask employees about other opportunities and roles.

Remember: if you don't like it, you can leave.

Did you know?

Actually showing up is probably the hardest part. If you can do it with a positive attitude, you'll find a lot of people willing to help you on your path.

Find The Role That Fits

You might start doing something that's not very relevant to your passions, and that's ok.

After you've demonstrated the basics (reliability, enthusiasm, intelligence, work ethic, etc), you can ask to get involved in something that does interest you.

You get the point.

Did you know?

Don't lie on your resume! But definitely try to make your work seem important and relevant. It probably is, you just don't really know!

Make Connections

Talk to other volunteers, your manager, and other employees who are willing to listen.

Tell them you're looking for work or more responsibilities.

It might be awkward, but you're here to get experience, not be popular.

Take Action

Volunteering is a great way to improve your resume.

Charities are always looking for help, so get out there and find them.

Once you're there, you can reach out to others. Ask questions, look for more responsibilities, and see if anyone knows other opportunities.
