Find An Organization That Interests You
Look for local organizations that need volunteers. Charities are a good idea.
Get in contact and see what roles they have available.
Keep going until you find something that interests you or is relevant to you.

Billy is probably best off looking for a charity with a newsletter for opportunities to write. Social media doesn't often focus on longer articles, and a large charity is likely to have professionals do this work.

You've got to show up with a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
Once you get to know people, you can ask employees about other opportunities and roles.
Remember: if you don't like it, you can leave.

Find The Role That Fits
You might start doing something that's not very relevant to your passions, and that's ok.
After you've demonstrated the basics (reliability, enthusiasm, intelligence, work ethic, etc), you can ask to get involved in something that does interest you.
You won't get what you don't ask for!

Charities are always looking for help, so get out there and find them.
Once you're there, you can reach out to others. Ask questions, look for more responsibilities, and see if anyone knows other opportunities.
