What's The Difference Between Creative And Logical Thinking?
Conformers vs. Outliers
If you have strong logical skills, people might see you as "a conformer to established patterns and rules." They might consider you to be reliable but "lack lacking in passion or empathy."
A creative thinker might be seen as an outlier who prefers to "by nature, break established patterns" with the "brilliant spark of innovation" but on the other hand, they might have questions about the uncertainty you bring to the table.
Many problem-solvers want to invent solutions with both the glow of novelty and a solid logical base. But how can you find balance?
Quiz
Can artists be logical thinkers?
Occupation can't distinguish creative thinkers and logic thinkers. Actually, each person can have a mix of both approaches.
Embed Creativity Into Logic
Following existing patterns too strictly can stifle creativity, so you need to bring creativity into logical reasoning.
Uncover cause and effect creatively. When exploring the root causes, is it possible to connect the variables in a new way?
Say yes to the impossible. New ideas are rarely understood right away. Don't rush to rule out something bizarre. It takes time to find the balance between genius and wildness.
Make creativity a habit. Many productive thinkers struggle to keep the creative juices flowing. Devote effort to make creative thinking a habit, and it will naturally inform your approach when using logic.
Quiz
Fatima is a furniture designer. She wants to design a piece of unique furniture. What should be her primary consideration?
Fatima should think about both the form (design) and function (structure) of the furniture. Focusing only on the raw materials or how to make the piece unique will lead to an unbalanced approach. While it's helpful to look at what others are doing, on it's own, it won't be enough to be truly innovative.

Use Logic To Reinforce Creativity
Is logic about conforming to norms? Yes, and no.
Even the wildest idea needs logical roots if it is going to be successful. Using logic to reinforce creativity is to think deeply about causes, analyze targets, and focus on creating the optimal outcome.
Artistic thinkers can use these tips to find balance:
Make sense of novelty. Look for the cause of what makes something new and distinct. When you can identify what makes something different, you can iterate and replicate it.
Measure and assess. Measuring the impact of a solution is vital, especially in a work context.Creativity isn't an excuse for wasting resources!Use metrics to measure the results of new ideas. Does your plan allow you to hit new targets, serve a broader group of people, or promote productivity?
Take Action
Creative thinkers and logic thinkers shouldn't be categorized as different groups. Like Mozart's music, creative approaches rooted in logic can help you create your own masterpiece.
Do you tend to be a more logical or creative thinker? What steps can you take to find more balance?
