Getting a job is tough.
You're ready to stand out from the crowd with a TikTok resume that shows employers who you are and what you can do. 💪
But what should you include?
Reading your paper resume to the camera is not going to cut it.
Follow these steps to nail your TikTok resume and land a great job!
Did you know?
Make A List Of Your Key Skills
Check out some job descriptions for the roles you're interested in and make note of the most common words. You should reference these in your TikTok.
Think about what you have to offer, and what the hiring manager would want to see in the person they hire.
Okay, let's break that down.
Meet Angela
Angela's looking for a job.
She checks out some job postings for titles she's interested in. She makes a list of the skills she sees repeated a lot. Then she writes down her relevant experience.
Angela's skill list:
Content creation - personal TikTok
Communication skills - university degree with major in communications
Social media management - works as digital content marketer
What Can You Show Visually?
Now, take a look at your list of skills. What can you show on screen?
Show off your portfolio. Dance, sing, show your stuff!
Mark these items - this is what you'll want to show on screen during your TikTok.
Going back to Angela's list...
Content creation - personal TikTok - show account on screen ✅
Communication skills - university degree with major in communications - show graduation photo ✅
Social media media management - works as digital content marketer
What Do You Need To Show With Text Or In The Voice Over?
What are the most important skills left on your list that you can't show visually?
You'll need to speak to these in voice over, or add them as text on screen.
Angela's list...
Content creation - personal TikTok
Communication skills - university degree with major in communications
Social media media management - works as digital content marketer ✅
How Can You Make It Stand Out?
The best part about a TikTok resume is that you can let your personality shine through.
Will your dog be a regular at zoom meetings? Did you learn to make 8 different kinds of bread during lockdown?
Weave in some of these unique things that make you special. It helps employers see the authentic you (and at the end of the day, hiring managers are looking for someone they'll want to work with).
Quiz
Which of these would be a good way to show your personality?
Showing your macrame project is fun and unique without getting too personal. Talking about your break up, why you quit, or your salary requirements are an overshare that won't make a good first impression.
Take Action
Time to start planning and get hired!
Post on TikTok and let us know how it goes. When the requests start coming in, make sure to start brushing up on your interview skills!
