As a college or university student, you're in an in-between space. You have a lot more freedom, but you still need to be responsible when you head out for the night. It can be a lot to juggle, but you can manage it with the right mindset.
You're allowed to have fun, but be sure to do it safely and responsibly!
Before Going Out
Before deciding whether to go out, take a moment to check in with yourself. Being intentional about your decision helps you make choices that align with your goals, values, and well-being. It also allows you to plan ahead so you can enjoy yourself in a responsible and safe way.
Ask yourself:
Can I financially afford to go out?
Will going out bring me peace or stress?
How will going out impact my academic performance?
Will going out tonight put me in danger, or can I have fun safely with this group of people in this environment?

Fear of Missing Out on the Fun
There have been many times that my friends have gone out, and I get FOMO (fear of missing out), but I always remind myself of my goals.
Reasons I've said no to going out:
It was over my budget
People were planning to drink irresponsibly
They were going to be out late, and I had an important day the following day
I had assignments to do that I knew woludn't get done if I went out
These are all good reasons to stay home. At the end of the day, is it really fun if it goes against your values or beliefs?
Take a moment to reflect and make sure someone else's idea of fun doesn't get in the way of your own goals and priorities. Remember, you can always make other plans that better align with the life you want to build while still having a great time.

Overspending because you're having fun.
Drinking and driving.
Taking a drink from a stranger.
Doing something you don't want to because you don't want to "ruin" the fun.
