Dr. Akira Kobayashi is a board-certified family medicine physician and the founder of Yakima Men’s Clinic. He also serves as an emergency physician at Astria Toppenish Hospital, a consulting physician for the Yakama Nation, and a clinical faculty member at the University of Washington.

Experiences

Dr. Kobayashi has extensive experience across the full spectrum of family medicine, including chronic disease management, emergency care, hospital medicine for both adults and children, obstetrics, and primary care. In addition to founding Yakima Men’s Clinic, he serves as an emergency physician at Astria Toppenish Hospital and a consulting physician for the Yakama Nation, where he dedicates one day per week to improving healthcare in Indigenous communities. He is also a clinical faculty member at the University of Washington and practices at Community Health of Central Washington.

Dr. Kobayashi earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (awarded to the top 10% of his class), before completing his residency at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, serving as clinic chief in his final year. Beyond medicine, he enjoys an active lifestyle, including rock climbing, running, strength training, mountaineering, backcountry skiing, hunting, and cooking. He and his wife, Emily, a general surgeon, are raising their two children and two foster children in Gleed, Washington, where they are members of Memorial Bible Church.
